“Beer scientifically better than water”

We may have wanted to believe it in the past but now scientific research proves it, beer is better than water! Beer provides better re-hydration than water, particularly after sport or physical exertion.

Before you all hit the gym for an intense workout session the study showed that re-hydration was slightly better when participants were given beer to drink after exercise than in those who were given water.

The study was conducted recently in Granada, Spain. Participants were asked to complete a gruelling and exhausting treadmill run in 104 degree heat! The lucky half was then given two pints of Spanish beer while the rest were given water to drink after the run. Participant’s re-hydration levels were tested and recorded at regular intervals.

The study was carried out by Spanish participants over a number of months this year. 25 Spanish students were involved in the study. Research included in their report that they thought that the sugars, salts and bubbles in beer that helps fluids absorb more quickly. Carbon dioxide present in beer helps to quench thirst more quickly. Carbohydrates present in beer replace the calories which are used during exercise.

So after an intense exercise session go home and pour a chilled Strangford Lough Brew, the ultimate thirst quencher.
